Udacity recently surveyed more than 2,500 tech workers worldwide across a diverse set of disciplines, industries, and levels of seniority to understand how AI is shaping careers, transforming teams, and impacting organizations.
Our research revealed a striking reality: 61% of workers believe AI could replace their current role within the next three to five years. This finding was consistent across various job functions, industries, and even seniority levels, underscoring the evolution every role will likely undergo to meet the needs of the AI economy.
Our research also found that professionals increasingly believe the future of work will include either hybrid human-AI teams or AI-only teams — with 63% of workers saying AI could replace most or all of their current team in the next 3-5 years. This belief was fairly consistent regardless of job function, seniority, or company industry.
AI’s disruption doesn’t stop at individual careers or teams. 58% of workers say AI could replace most or all of their organization’s core products and services within the next three to five years—highlighting just how important it is for individuals, teams, and companies to retool, upskill, and reinvent to thrive in the AI economy.
Workers Are Still Optimistic About AI
Despite AI’s transformative impact, workers remain optimistic about their present and future in the AI economy. 43% of workers are already utilizing agentic AI at least once per day in their work.
What’s more, seven in ten workers say AI tools have helped them increase their productivity and creativity, while at least four in ten say it has provided better work/life balance, reduced stress, and helped them make better decisions.
