Udacity Announces Landmark Scholarship with OneTen

The tech industry is facing a problem — the tech skills gap is only continuing to grow. According to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), in the next 10 years there will be a shortage of 85 million tech workers. That shortage of workers translates into $8.5 trillion in lost annual revenue for tech companies.

When you consider that less than 7% of tech roles are held by Black and Latino people according to TrustRadius, it becomes clear that underrepresented groups represent untapped potential for filling this skills gap. By helping provide educational opportunities for the underserved, we’re hoping to build a more equitable future.

OneTen, a coalition of leading CEOs and their organizations, has launched an ambitious initiative to hire, upskill, reskill and promote one million African-Americans individuals over the next 10 years.

Providing Educational Opportunities to the Black Community

Back in May, we announced that we are an official Talent Developer in the OneTen initiative. Today, Udacity is excited to announce that as a part of this partnership, OneTen will be launching a Nanodegree Scholarship Program.

Starting October 14, the application period will open for the OneTen Scholarship. This scholarship is aimed at African-Americans without a four year degree who are looking to start a new career in technology, ranging from digital marketing to software engineering

Recipients will be able to take Udacity Nanodegree programs that provide tools to help students find family-sustaining and generational-wealth-building job opportunities. Graduates will also receive access to the OneTen Platform that connects them to potential job opportunities.

The OneTen Scholarship is also run in partnership with the Blacks in Technology Foundation. BIT serves members through community, media and mentorship, providing resources and guidance and challenging members to establish new standards of innovation.

How the OneTen Scholarship Works

Applications for the OneTen Scholarship open October 14, 2021 and close December 20, 2021. There are a few phases of selection involved in the process, including a challenge and a final assessment that take place between January 5, 2022 and February 17, 2022. By February 28, 2022, the final student list of scholarship recipients will be announced.

Of all who apply, 2,000 lucky students will receive the OneTen Scholarship and will be eligible for any one of four fully-paid Nanodegree programs through Udacity:
