When asked what impact GenAI will have on the digital workforce, 25-year AI industry pioneer, Ed Wiley, PhD, had this to say: “You’re less likely to lose your job directly to AI. It’s more likely you’ll lose your job to someone who knows how to use AI.” It’s difficult to understate just how momentous this period of time is going to be when we look back at it years from now. Dr. Wiley and other experts theorize this period will be viewed similarly to the early days of the internet, while others even compared it to the discovery of electricity.

As a result, there has been a level of hype bordering on hysteria since November 2022 when it comes to the ripple effects Generative AI will have on our lives, careers, and society in general. Between then and now, we’ve been busy building comprehensive, expert-led Generative AI programs and courses at Udacity. We wanted to make sure to do right by our students and tech practitioners by avoiding the reactionary and theoretical, and instead lean more into the nuanced and the actionable. So, in case you missed it, here’s a roundup of all of our recent GenAI course releases.

What are Udacity’s Generative AI courses?

Generative AI Nanodegree program

  • Who this is for: Software practitioners who are looking to integrate GenAI into their day-to-day work.
  • What you’ll learn: You’ll start by diving into the essentials with an introductory course, progress to mastering text generation with Large Language Models, unravel the complexities of image creation in computer vision, and cap it off by bringing AI to life in real-world applications. From foundational theories to building sophisticated chatbots and AI agents, this program will empower you with job-ready skills in the exciting field of Generative AI.

Generative AI Fluency

  • Who this is for: Any professional working on or adjacent to GenAI projects and practitioners. This course is to help you engage, collaborate, and contribute with confidence when it comes to GenAI.
  • What you’ll learn: Develop your foundational understanding of the technology and terminology, so you can work on GenAI projects with confidence. Designed to help you not only talk the talk when it comes to GenAI, but support you in understanding the technology as a whole, including its capabilities and its limitations. In the course, you’ll dive into foundational concepts – from specific applications like Large Language Models (LLMs) for text generation and diffusion-based models for image creation to hands-on experience with tools like DALL-E and Midjourney.

Generative AI for Business Leaders

  • Who this is for: Executives, managers, team leads, board members, and other decision makers wanting to implement GenAI solutions across their organizations.
  • What you’ll learn: A comprehensive framework for implementing successful AI projects and strategies at your company. With over a year of consulting at the front lines of GenAI implementation, along with 25+ years of experience leading and advising world-class machine learning, AI, and data science teams, instructor Ed Wiley teaches you how you can develop and deploy end-to-end Generative AI solutions for your business. By the end of this program, you’ll have created a 100-day product roadmap to bring GenAI to life across your teams and your organization.

Generative AI Fundamentals

  • Who this is for: Software practitioners who are looking to integrate GenAI into their day-to-day work.
  • What you’ll learn: Get a crash course in deep learning and how GenAI compares to previous AI techniques, followed by hands-on practice with model adaptation. We will walk through popular Generative AI models and how they work, how deep learning models are developed using tools like PyTorch and Hugging Face, and how to customize pre-trained open-source models for a specific use case.

LLMs & Text Generation

  • Who this is for: Software practitioners who are looking to integrate GenAI into their day-to-day work.
  • What you’ll learn: Explore how computers understand and create language, and then build a custom chatbot. You’ll start with a high-level overview of the types of LLMs, the differences between them, and how best to account for their strengths and weaknesses. Then you’ll dive deeper into the details, including natural language processing (NLP) techniques like tokenization, as well as modern transformer architectures and attention mechanisms.

Computer Vision and Generative AI

  • Who this is for: Software practitioners who are looking to integrate GenAI into their day-to-day work.
  • What you’ll learn: Learn to customize pre-trained open-source models for specific use cases. During the course, you’ll learn more about computer vision fundamentals, image generation and GANs, transformer-based computer vision models, diffusion models, AI photo editing, and more.

Building Generative AI Solutions

  • Who this is for: Software practitioners who are looking to integrate GenAI into their day-to-day work.
  • What you’ll learn: Build an application that transforms standard real estate listings into personalized narratives. The course covers semantic search, teaching how AI interprets and responds to human language, and vector databases for managing complex AI data structures. The course also explores LangChain for building language models and practical applications of AI in various fields. This program equips learners with the skills to create advanced, user-friendly AI systems.
