Land Your Dream Job with these Digital Marketing Interview Prep Tips

You are ready to land your dream digital marketing job, but don’t know where to start?

According to a study done at Gettysburg College the average person spends about 90,000 hours at work in their lifetime. Not doing your research on a company to find out about work/life balance, training or growth can be a costly mistake.

If you follow these tips, you will ace your digital marketing interview and be closer to your dream digital marketing job.

Know Your Audience And Company

While any interview can be intimidating, it’s best to prepare and do your research if you want a digital marketing job. Doing your research prior to your interview arms you with the knowledge you’ll need to align yourself with the company’s missions and values.

With background knowledge of the brand, mission and culture you’ll have a  deeper understanding of how you can be of value to the business.  It also helps you to know if you will be a good fit or even like being at the company. Sites like Glassdoor or Indeed can give you feedback about the environment and culture.

Preparing Yourself For A Digital Marketing Interview

Most digital marketing interview questions are designed to reveal candidates’ problem-solving and decision making skills. When you are asked specific digital marketing interview questions about the company, the employer will be impressed if you did your homework.

Practice and be prepared to answer all the common digital marketing interview questions, but also having your own questions to ask at the end of the interview shows you are serious about the job. Here are a few additional tips:

  • Help the interviewer relax and see you as someone who’s going to solve their problems. By asking the right questions, you show the interviewer you’re the right choice.
  • Use the STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, Result) to answer questions. This will ensure you convey your message in an organized and professional way.
  • Check social media to make sure to research all company social media channels including blog posts. Go beyond their corporate website to learn more about who the company is as an organization.

First Impressions

You only get one chance to make a great first impression. These days, your first meeting will likely be virtual. Here are some great tips:

  • Dress to impress – Dressing up a little will put you in the right mindset and will make you feel more confident.
  • Check your surroundings – During a virtual interview, create a professional environment and keep clutter out of sight or consider using a blurred or alternate background.
  • Be on time – Arriving 10 minutes early to settle down and focus on the interview shows the interviewer you are serious and reliable.
  • Ask for the job – Make it evident to the person you’re meeting with that you want a job with their company, not just any company. Be confident and courageous, it takes boldness to ask for the job.
