Partnership and Inception

The collaboration between OneTen, Udacity and Blacks in Technology took flight in October 2021, marking the beginning of a transformative journey for aspiring tech professionals. Since then, six cohorts have been launched, bringing hope and opportunities to those seeking a path into the tech industry.

Who is OneTen?

OneTen is a coalition of leading executives and companies in the United States that is committed to upskilling, hiring, and promoting one million Black Americans and others without 4-year degrees into family-sustaining jobs with advancement opportunities, over the decade. OneTen focuses on collaboration between the private sector and nonprofits to create pathways for individuals to access education, training, and employment opportunities in various industries through a skills-first approach. 

By The Numbers

The impact of the OneTen/BIT Scholarship is undeniable, with a staggering 20,634 applications submitted by eager learners. Among those, 7,306 students have undergone training through Udacity’s platform. These numbers highlight the scholarship’s success in reaching and uplifting a significant portion of the Black American community.

Diverse Demographics

The scholarship has attracted a diverse group of individuals, with 58% of students enrolling to make a career switch. Among the participants, 47% fall within the 26-35 age range, demonstrating that it’s never too late to pursue a career in tech. Furthermore, the scholarship has empowered 57% of women, with 53% of students boasting at least 5 years of professional experience. Notably, 43% of participants are employed full-time, showcasing the scholarship’s accessibility to those with existing commitments.

Geographical Impact

The OneTen/BIT Scholarship has left its mark on various metropolitan areas across the United States. The top 5 metro areas with the most participants include Houston, Atlanta, Charlotte, New York, and Orlando. By reaching these diverse locations, the scholarship is contributing to a nationwide effort to diversify the tech industry.

Positive Career Outcomes

Perhaps the most inspiring aspect of the OneTen/BIT Scholarship is its impact on career outcomes. An impressive 82% of graduates reported positive career changes. Additionally, 38% of graduates reported a direct career outcome, such as a new job, pay increase, promotion, or starting a new business, underscoring the scholarship’s effectiveness in opening doors to fulfilling and sustainable careers in the tech sector.

Through our partnership, this initiative has successfully transformed the lives of thousands, creating a more inclusive and diverse future for the world of technology.
