COVID-19 changed how we work in 2020. Huge tech companies, like Twitter, have announced that they’ll let their employees work from home for the foreseeable future. With this newfound freedom, many in tech are looking to expand their career options by applying to jobs anywhere, since remote working is the new norm.

React Developers are no exception. In fact, now that anyone can work from anywhere, they’re in demand. According to Hacker News Hiring Trends, last year React was the top skill in job postings with Python, AWS, Machine Learning, and PostgreSQL also ranking high, but significantly behind React.

For the uninitiated: React developers are software engineers who specialize in front end development using the React JavaScript library

In this post, we will journey to five of the top tech hubs around the world and take a look into the salary for a React developer based on location.

React Developer Salaries Around the World

San Francisco, California

San Francisco — arguably the most well-known tech hub in the entire world —  is full of startups, entrepreneurs, and a majority of the biggest tech companies, like Google, Twitter, and Uber. React developers in San Francisco make the biggest salaries out of all of the tech hubs, but keep in mind that the cost of living is high, too.

The average pay for a React developer in San Francisco is $112,000, according to Glassdoor, with top earners making over $165,000.

Austin, Texas

In the last few years, Austin has become a popular destination for programmers who are looking beyond the Bay Area. Notable tech companies like Apple, Dropbox, and IBM have campuses in the area.

The average pay for a React developer is $76,000. That may sound low when compared to SF, but keep in mind that the median home price in Austin is $369,000.

Berlin, Germany

Berlin is a city that is alive and buzzing with tech innovations, a thriving artist community, and popular music scene. According to Glassdoor, the average pay for a React developer in Berlin is €53,388 ($63,000). Top earners in the area make more than €63,000, which is $75,000 in USD.

Tel Aviv, Israel

Tel Aviv, Israel is another popular destination for tech workers. Companies like IBM, Motorola, Intel, and Microsoft have locations in the country with thousands of employees. The average pay for a React developer in Tel Aviv is $251,244 NIS, which converts to roughly $72,000 a year.

London, United Kingdom

React developers moving to London can expect to earn £43,312 ($56,550), according to Glassdoor. Surprisingly, the average salary for programmers is around $20,000 less a year than many other places in the world, but the cost of living isn’t significantly cheaper.

According to Investopedia, the average price of a two bedroom apartment in London’s city center is $2,500 a month. Definitely keep that in mind if you decide to take the leap and move across the pond.

Your Journey to React Development

Keep in mind that if you apply for job in one city while teleworking in another that your pay will be subject to a cost-of-living adjustment.

However, if you could see yourself as a React developer someday (and earning that fantastic React developer pay), you can begin the journey to your new career today by taking online classes. Udacity’s React Nanodegree program is a great place to start.

With only 10 hours a week of online education, you can earn your Nanodegree program in as little as four months and be well on your way to becoming a React developer.
