For the 24-year-old, Prem Kumar.V.G, life seemed difficult when he could not land a job after completing his bachelors in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from a college in Bengaluru, India. He had an education loan to repay and was also expected to financially support his family.
“My father has retired from the Navy and my mother is a homemaker. I have a sister who has recently got married,” said Prem. With the pressure of the loan and family obligations mounting, Prem was forced to work in a shop that paid him INR 3000 – INR 4000 per month. Realizing that he couldn’t do much with this salary, he became a delivery executive with a popular food delivery firm in the country.
“I worked as a delivery boy for around 6 months with two popular food tech companies in India. In November 2018, I decided to take a plunge and reskill myself. I started looking for online courses and stumbled upon Udacity. Basis of my research and knowledge, I knew that technologies like AI, Machine Learning and Data are the future. I enrolled for a Data Analyst Nanodegree program from Udacity as I wanted to start from scratch,” said Prem.
Prem graduated from the Data Analyst Nanodegree program earlier this month and is now looking for a relevant job. He had left his job as a food delivery boy to concentrate on the Nanodegree program.
“The projects I did as part of the program made me more confident. Being absolutely new to the field of data, I had thought that this course is going to be very challenging and difficult to complete. The mentors provided by Udacity helped me a lot during the program. They not only cleared my doubts but also motivated me to be on track and complete the program. I am happy that not only did I graduate from the Nanodegree program successfully but also gained the confidence to appear for relevant job interviews,” he said
