AI Product Manager

Nanodegree Program

The AI Product Manager Nanodegree Program offers a comprehensive overview of AI and machine learning for business. It covers the basics of AI, how to leverage existing datasets with AI, how to collect or create bespoke datasets for custom AI applications, and how to use the latest Generative AI technologies. In the first project, learners will create a Product Requirements Document (PRD) for a product that incorporates AI personalization and forecasting. Then, in the second project, learners will develop a roadmap for an AI product that requires custom data annotations. Finally, in the third project, learners will build a product strategy for incorporating Large Language Models (LLMs) into an existing product, including plans for measuring both performance metrics and bias metrics.

You are starting a challenging but rewarding journey! Take 5 minutes to read how to get help with projects and content.

Course 2 1 week

Leveraging Data with AI

This course is for product managers who want to build AI products. It does not require any prior familiarity with AI. You'll start by learning how AI can be applied, the different types of AI, data needs for AI, and the AI product lifecycle. Then, you'll dive deeper into two types of AI that can leverage existing datasets: personalization and forecasting. You'll learn some technical details about how these models work and how to evaluate them, and practice what you've learned with hands-on exercises. Finally, you'll pull this all together into a project where you'll develop a PRD for an AI-enabled gift recommendation system in an e-commerce setting.

Lesson 1

Using AI and Machine Learning in Business

Discover how AI and ML technologies can revolutionize business processes, from automating tasks to enabling smarter decision-making and innovation for a competitive edge.

Lesson 2

AI Personalization and Unsupervised Machine Learning

Learn how techniques such as recommendation engines and clustering algorithms can be used to create personalized product experiences.

Lesson 3

Predicting the Future with AI

This lesson covers regressions and time series basics, how they're used in industry, and how to consider the data requirements to train these models.

Lesson 4 • Project

Product Requirements Document (PRD) for an AI-Enabled Gift Recommendation System MVP

Create a PRD for an AI-enabled gift recommendation system that leverages existing customer data to encourage gift purchases on an e-commerce platform

Course 3 1 week

Bespoke Datasets for Multimodal AI Products

This course is for product managers who want to build AI products that include multimodal data such as text, video, and audio. Leveraging existing data for AI applications is a great way to get started, but bespoke datasets can offer improved accuracy, domain specificity, and, ultimately, a competitive advantage. The course starts with an overview of supervised machine learning techniques, computer vision—the technology that allows computers to "see"—and how computer vision and supervised ML can be combined. Then, you'll learn more about how to create bespoke datasets for computer vision and other applications, and conclude with a walkthrough of the key stakeholders involved in AI product development. In the project, you'll develop a roadmap for an AI-powered video creation app.

Lesson 1

Supervised Machine Learning and Computer Vision

Dive deeper into each step of the supervised machine learning process, from data understanding to model evaluation, then learn how to combine these approaches with computer vision technology

Lesson 2

Data Annotation for AI Products

Learn how data can affect the performance of an AI system and determine whether a bespoke dataset is needed, then practice developing a data annotation plan

Lesson 3

AI Stakeholders and Roadmaps

Collaborate with stakeholders, enhance communication, and develop roadmaps for AI products. Develop skills in influencing without authority and the RICE prioritization framework.

Lesson 4 • Project

Roadmap for Tasty Cuts: An AI-Powered Video Creation App for Home Chefs

Build a roadmap for an AI product that combines computer vision and specialized data annotation needs

Course 4 1 week

Generative AI Products

This course is for product managers who are building products that contain GenAI features. It starts with teaching some underlying principles about LLMs and conversational AI, then looks at specific ways GenAI can be used in different product features, and what metrics can be used to measure the performance of GenAI features (including information retrieval accuracy and fairness/bias metrics). The course concludes with a project in which you’ll draft a proposal for a GenAI-powered product.

Lesson 1

NLP and Conversational AI

Learn about text-based models and interfaces and their unique challenges and opportunities for AI products

Lesson 2

Building Products with Large Language Models (LLMs)

AI is developing quickly and often sounds more like fiction than reality. In this lesson, we'll cut through the hype and focus on the real-world building blocks that make or break a great product.

Lesson 3

Measuring Impact and Mitigating Bias in AI Products

Explore AI impact assessment, success metric definition, bias identification, mitigation techniques, and best practices in AI product management.

Lesson 4 • Project

Innovative Business Solutions with Large Language Models (LLMs)

For this project, you'll choose a scenario, devise a plan to build a product that serves your target customer well, and create slides to win the support of the project's key stakeholders.
