Glossary for Lesson 25: Slant Asymptotes

Slant Asymptote

A slant asymptote is a line, not horizontal or vertical, that a curve gets closer and closer to as x\rightarrow -\infty or x\rightarrow \infty .  The function y=\frac {x^2+x-3}{x+2} , for example, has a slant asymptote of y=x-1 .
