Scholarship for Android Nanodegree Program Terms and Conditions

Scholarship:

Google and Tata Trusts are giving out 1000 (500 each) scholarships under which Google and Tata Trusts will fully sponsor the Android Nanodegree Program (“Program”) for 500 winning applicants each (“Scholarship”).

Program:

Scholarships are for Udacity Android Developer Nanodegree program.

Students will learn to develop for Android and transform their career outlook! This Nanodegree program will provide a guided, efficient path for an intermediate developer with little or no experience on mobile platforms to emerge as an Android Developer.

By the end of the Nanodegree program, students will have a diverse portfolio of projects to show employers, and will even publish their own app on the Google Play Store as part of the Capstone project.

This is an Intermediate Nanodegree curriculum: Entering students are expected to have prior experience building applications (web or mobile) in Java or another object-oriented programming language.

Application submission period:

Application for the Scholarship for the third and final phase shall be accepted from February 3rd,2016 until March 5th, 2016.

Eligibility:

  • Meet the requirements for the Nanodegree listed under “Prerequisites and Requirements” here.
  • Have a Udacity account and successfully pass the online assessment here.
  • Current students or graduates of Android NanoDegree program are not eligible for this scholarship.

How to Apply:

  • Register a Udacity account (or use an existing account), log in and take the online assessment here.
  • If you’re eligible, you will be contacted by email to the address associated with your Udacity account. Udacity does not bear responsibility if you can not be reached by the email address associated with your account.

Please note that the judging criteria, selection of winners and other terms contained below is only for 500 Scholarships being offered by Google. Tata Trusts will have its own selection criteria and will reach out to the winners directly.

Judging and Selection of Winners:

Judging Criteria:

The winners will be selected by a third-party panel of judges appointed by Google.

Judges will select winners basis the following criteria:

  • Academic performance
  • Showcase of previous work
  • Exhibited passion for entrepreneurship and innovation
  • Online assessment
  • 1:1 interviews

Winners:

After following the selection process, a total of 500 winners will be selected by the judges whose Programs will be sponsored by Google.

Announcement of Winners:

Winners will be individually contacted by Google and/or its representatives via e-mail addresses and contact numbers provided during application for the program. Their names will also be announced on the Google India Twitter handle and Google+ Page.

By submitting your application for availing the Scholarship all applicants agree to receive phone calls and emails from Google and its representatives in relation to the Scholarship.

Judge’s decisions are final. If there are not enough eligible entries, not all prizes will be awarded. If a potential winner is unable, for whatever reason, to accept his or her prize, Google may award the prize to another participant.

Scholarship Terms:

  • Program fee shall be directly paid to Udacity by Google and the Winners should not pay any monies to anyone for pursuing or completion of the Program offered under the Scholarship.

  • Scholarship covers one Program for each Winner. If the Winner(s) decides to take-up the Program again at a later point in time or undergo any other curriculum or training provided by Udacity, whether related to the Program or otherwise, the same shall have to be borne by the Winner(s) themselves and that Google shall in no way be liable for payment of any such programs or trainings for any of the Winners or participants.

  • There is no cash alternative of the Scholarship. Winners shall not seek any refunds from Udacity for uncompleted Programs or in lieu of forgoing the Program.

  • The Scholarship is non-transferrable i.e. the Winners cannot transfer their Scholarships to anyone else.

  • Google shall not be responsible for any taxes or levies that may be applicable on/charged to the Winners. Winners shall be solely responsible to make appropriate disclosures of their Scholarship to relevant authorities and pay taxes and levies as may be applicable to each of the Winners. Google will not provide any tax guidance or advice on this matter to any of the participants and that the participants/Winners must engage independent consultants/advisors to seek any advices in this regard, if any.

  • Google shall not be responsible to re-sponsor the Program for any of the Winners if the concerned Winner is unable to undergo the Program , for any reason whatsoever, or is unable to complete it successfully.

  • Google is not responsible for the content of the Program or its relevance, suitability or usability for the Winners. The Program shall be governed by the terms and conditions provided by Udacity.

  • Except for warranties and conditions implied by law, which cannot be excluded, Google makes no representations or warranties, express or implied, regarding the quality or suitability of the Program for each of the Winners.

  • Any disputes, complaints or claims regarding the Program or any services provided by Udacity should be sent directly to Udacity and that Google shall not entertain any such claims, complaints or disputes regarding the Program or related services provided by Udacity for any reason whatsoever.

  • By applying for the Scholarship you agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions. Google is not responsible for the policies, actions, or inactions of others that might prevent you from applying for or participating in the Scholarship progam, and/or claiming the Scholarship if you’re declared a Winner.

  • Potential Winners may be required to sign, notarize, and return an Affidavit or Declaration of Eligibility, a Liability/Publicity Release and provide any additional information that may be required by Google. Failure to comply with such requirements within the time period stipulated by Google may result in disqualification and selection of an alternate winner.

  • Google is not responsible for any malfunction the Application submission webpage due to system or technical error or Internet outage and any inaccurate transmissions of your application or information or failure to display the Scholarship details caused because of it.

Privacy Notice:

Participants agree that Google may collect, store, share and otherwise use personally identifiable information provided during the registration/application process, including, but not limited to, name, mailing address, phone number, and email address. Google will use this information in accordance with its Privacy Policy (http://www.google.com/policies/privacy/), including for administering the Scholarship program and verifying the applicants’ identity, postal address and telephone number in the event an applicants is selected to be a Winner. Applicant’s information may also be transferred to countries outside the country of applicant's residence, including the United States.  Such other countries may not have privacy laws and regulations similar to those of the country of applicant's residence. If an applicant's does not provide the mandatory data required at registration/application submission, Google reserves the right to disqualify the entry/application.  Applicant has the right to request access, review, rectification or deletion of any personal data held by Google in connection with the Contest by writing to Google a Privacy Matters, c/o Google Inc., 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway, Mountain View, California 94043.

Media Activity:

By applying for the Scholarship and participating in the selection process thereof, each applicant agrees that if the applicant is declared a winner, his or her name may be announced publicly (for example it may be posted on the program’s website) and his or her name and image may be used to promote the Scholarship program. Google may also ask Winners to participate in media activities, but such participation is optional.

Governing law and jurisdiction:

The Contest is governed by the laws of the State of California, excluding its conflict-of-laws principles.  The exclusive venue for any dispute relating to this Contest shall be Santa Clara County, California.

Limitation of Liability:

To the maximum extent permitted by law, you agree to indemnify and keep indemnified Google at all times from and against all liability, claims, demands, losses, damages, costs and expenses resulting from any act, default or omissions by you and or a breach of any warranty by you detailed herein to the maximum extent permitted by law. You indemnify and agree to keep indemnified Google at all times from and against any liability, actions, claims, demands, losses, damages costs and expenses for or in respect of which Google will or may become liable by reason of or related or incidental to any act, default or omission by you under these rules including without limitation resulting from or in relation to any breach, non-observance, act or omission whether negligent or otherwise, pursuant to those rules by you.

TO THE EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, GOOGLE WILL NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR LOST PROFITS, REVENUES OR DATA, FINANCIAL LOSSES OR INDIRECT, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES. IN ALL CASES, GOOGLE WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY LOSS OR DAMAGE THAT IS NOT REASONABLY FORESEEABLE. TO THE EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE TOTAL LIABILITY OF GOOGLE FOR ANY CLAIMS UNDER THESE TERMS, INCLUDING FOR ANY IMPLIED WARRANTIES, IS LIMITED TO THE COST OF THE PROGRAM.
