Consider an enhancement to a processor, it runs 10 times faster than the original processor but is usable only 40% of the time.
What is the overall speedup when the improvement is incorporated?
Speedup of the enhancement = Se = 10
Fraction of enhancement = F = 40/100 = .40
Speedup overall = So = 1/((1-F) + F/Se) = 1/(0.6 + 0.4/10) = 1/0.64 = 1.56
