Mobile app developers are IT specialists who usually don't have the 10 years' experience that employers look for in other types of staff. Because of this, your chances of becoming a developer are not dependent on your years of experience in the field, but more on your ability to program a variety of applications. The Android Basics by Google Nanodegree teaches the coding language and programming basics you need to work in mobile development and design apps for Android.
Using Java, learn to build single-screen business apps for Android mobile devices, and then expand that knowledge to put together multi-screen programs. Study different user interfaces, and user input, to discover the best practices for piecing together user-friendly software that people enjoy. While working on the "News App," learn how to connect your newly created Android app to an available network; the "Inventory App" teaches you how to use data storage as part of your software. Complete a variety of other real-world apps through the course of the program and use the hands-on knowledge gained to develop your own apps by the time you complete the course.
Study 8 hrs/week and complete in 6-8 mo.
