Udacity’s Pledge to Equality Scholarship Program Launches to Drive Change in Tech

The year 2020 has been illuminating. Social unrest and the Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement shined a light on the inequity that minority communities face in their daily lives, or in getting access to jobs in industries like tech. 

Udacity wants to stamp out this inequity, and we believe that the path to better careers for underrepresented communities is paved with education. Our mission is to power careers — for everyone — through tech education. And, we pledge to increase educational and professional opportunities for underrepresented communities. 

With that said, we’re proud to announce that we’re accepting applications for our Pledge to Equality Scholarship Program.

Meet Juv Chan

I have been working as a Software Engineer for most of my 15-year career in technology. I progressed from embedded software development, to full-stack web and database development, to cloud-native application development and DevOps. Currently, my work focuses on cloud AI development and data engineering.

In 2015, I was searching for cost-effective ways to advance my career. I firmly believed that machine learning and AI skills were the most coveted and critical digital skills – in addition to cloud and software development. Since I already had extensive software development experience, I focused my development plan on expanding my skillset in data science, machine learning (ML) and AI.
